Plans for 2012

We are delighted that Tandridge Borough Council have granted permission for us to build a state of the art extension at Kings Lodge.

Work is due to start on this exciting new venture early in 2012 and will provide the following facilities, all of which will enhance the exceptional level of care provided at Kings Lodge:

  • 22 Bedrooms – the extension will create 22 new bedrooms over ground and first floors, all with en-suite facilities and all appointed for high quality care.
  • ‘Starter’ Flats – the development will also contain two ‘Starter’ flats; these are designed to allow residents to be assessed having left hospital as to their levels of independence.
  • Gym –a larger, purpose built gym which will enable more residents to use the facility and equipment providing the required therapy to enable them to improve strength and flexibility, reduce spasticity, pain and stiffness, promote weight bearing and mobility and maintain function and independence.
  • Activity Room – a new Activity Room will provide much needed space for therapists to work with residents at the current skills programmes, including singing and group therapy, as well as allow for new interests to be introduced, such as carpentry. In addition, this will free up the current area used up to allow for a larger dining area for residents.

  • Kitchen/Laundry – a kitchen and laundry area will allow residents to learn and practise cooking skills and laundering clothes which help co-ordinate movement and increase concentration.  The cooking will also stimulate interest in the finished meal thus encouraging appetite.
  • Garden – better access to the garden will allow residents the benefit of fresh air in a calm environment.  A section will also be set aside to encourage residents to participate in gardening skills such as planting seeds, maintaining planted pots or growing vegetables.  This is a valuable part of social skills as gardening can be undertaken as 1:1 or as a group.
  • Communal Rooms – there will be two new communal rooms encouraging residents in social skills, either as an individual or in a group, which will build self confidence, friendships and independence.  As with the Activity Room, this will also free up the current area.
  • Quiet Room – this room will provide a much needed quiet area for residents to read, relax or listen to music.
  • Additional Therapists – these structural proposals will allow for the introduction of new therapists to Kings Lodge who will improve their physical and mental well being.

Keep watching for photos of our progress!
